I didn’t even know you could love a city. Lodz always seemed grim and boring to me but I met the inhabitants of Lodz who are in love with their city. What is so special about Lodz? Cartainly the city’s location in the center of Poland. Can say that it is close to everywhere to the sea, to the mountais, to the East and West. Lodz is a city of one street and everyone knows her this is Piotrkowska street, it’s teh main street with several decoratove Art Nouveau tenement houses. This is a street where crowds of pedestrians strolled althought nothing can be bought there becouse most shops went bankrupt from increasingly expensive rents. Only in summer the street takes on a colorful character the restaurant gardens are blooming on the street and vacant strollers can get drunk with various alcohols.

This is where the charm of the most important street in the city ends apart from the rare performances of street marches. Instead of love for this city is not always associated with drinking beer on Piotrkowska street but to the part of the city that is extinct. Lodz is a city of a great clothing industry that plunged into economic decline. A lot of deserted industrial facilities still remain hiding the secret of a bright future. These amazing places are gradually giving way to newly built housing estates and supermarkets. The most popular tombstone after the grave of the large textile factory is the Manufaktura shopping center.

This French investment strongly competes with the local street Piotrkowska. End wins because here you can also eat, drink and most importantly your can park your car there. There are seeral features of this city but most of the inhabitants of Lodz know only those two that I menioned here. (Brux)
