It is being built 44 years and the end of construction is still no visible. The construction for the building has not yet been completed and several necessary renovations have already been made.

The building is huge, its volume is 307.296 m3, 160 meters long, 20 levels and 17 floors. It is located in the center of Poland in the city of Lodz and can be seen from outside the city. You can’t miss it.

It was to be a showcase of a modern communist country and became the laughingstock of modern Europe.

The construction of the hospital began in 1976. After 38 years of construction, the building was finally put into use (2014), but the usable part is only half of the building. The construction consumed over a billion PLN, i.e. 250.000.000 USD and there is still a lack of money to complete the construction that already requires technical modernization. Grotesquely, on the hospital’s website, we will see a public call for funding for the hospital due to coronavirus.

The hospital is part of the Clinical and Didactic Center of the Medical University, the current director of the Center is Monika Domarecka. I tried to get information from the hospital’s secretariat about the building’s history but the secretary pretends that the problematic building does not exist. There is a reason for these fears. It is so, that with large investments in the period of organizational chaos and a lack of control tools, a lot of funds earmarked for construction were spreading into private pockets of also changing academic authorities. There was a lot of embezzlement and that’s why there is a collusion of silence and masking of a shameful story. The revival in the construction of the hospital appeared simultaneously with the introduction of electronic administration and a modern data archiving system for those times, which will probably find many accounting irregularities.

Currently, 14 academic clinics operate in the building, their names change frequently. The hospital has 367 beds, but after dusk the lights on all open floors do not turn on.

Even before the start of construction, the folk authorities ensured that the emerging object will ensure the highest quality of specialist, hospital and outpatient treatment for five voivodeships. The current opinion of patients shows quite the opposite belief. A visit to this property ca be very humiliating and incompetent. It is not the fault of the building but the staff of the clinics, but the overall rating of the place is highly negative.

The main originator and architect of the building and the entire medical center was architect Janusz Wyzynikiewicz. Acceptable of the project took place in an atmosphere of ideological euphoria symbols of incompetent power, because there is absolutely no logical justification for such a construction as a hospital. The mere supply of basic medical products for many separate clinics and outpatient infrastructure as in a small logical warehouse, which was not included in the project. In addition, there are crisis scenarios that exclude the construction of the building as a safe evacuation object. Despite these two key concerns, local authorities still insist on retaining this building for a hospital medical facility. (Brux)
