Ruins of Olsztyn Castle

Driving towards the town of Olsztyn in the Czestochowa region, rolling down the asphalt road down to the town, a magical view of the ruins of the Olsztyn castle will appear before our eyes.

The castle was built in the 13th century and completely destroyed by the Swedish invasion in the 16th century. Like every castle, the one in Olsztyn has its own legend. It is an unpleasant event that happened to Kacper Karlinski of the Ostoja coat of arms. How much history is in it and how much legend we do not know.

Currently, the castle is the property of the Board of the Grunwald Community of the village of Olsztyn, with which contact is rather impossible to establish. Perhaps because there are holidays and such facilities enjoy increased tourist traffic, it is a Polish custom to pretend that you are on vacation.

For young people from the town of Olsztyn and the neighboring towns, the ruins of the castle are a place of meetings and relaxation, just like shopping centers in large cities. The only difference is that the shopping centers are open for free, and the entrance to the castle is paid. Admission to the castle costs 7 PLN ($ 2) and allows only a two-hour stay, so young people find a way to get to the ruins without the humiliating fees.

The ruins of the castle were often used as set design in many Polish movies. From April 2020, access to the castle is forbidden because a virus has inhabited it. After a month, the virus moved out and the decision was reversed.

Currently, the castle is undergoing revitalization, but as I mentioned before, I could not get much information about it, is it an attempt to hide the mismanagement of funds? (Brux)
