An interesting solution I observed passing through two small cities in the center of Poland. Here, on some intersections to light signaling, an additional clock counting down the time down remained to change the light.
Traffic lights are set for 50 seconds. The numbers of the clock in red for the light red light counts on how much the driver will wait for the red light. When the green light lights up, the drivers see how much time it was to go off green light and make a decision or to accelerate if it is already worth stopping.
This solution was used only on several intersections, and in one town only on one intersection in the city center. I wondered if this was an attraction or help in organizing traffic on the most crowded intersections. I personally helped it very much, but observe other drivers I got out of the conviction that this is a facilitation. Many drivers waiting for red light completely ignored the zegra indicator. Only when the green light littered wonders what to do to make the car moved. A permanent search for a gear and a suitable gas pedal. And for this purpose, the clock was installed to prepare earlier.
This can be a response why we do not find such solutions in common application. This doubles the cost of signaling and repairs, and the effectiveness of motion dynamics improves to a small extent with the mentality of Polish drivers. Most Poles try to completely ignore the surroundings and other people in vehicles. Few who repeals the rules of traffic. Polish drivers are more holding on Polish road traffic regulations often contrary to the logically determined principles.
As a Polish driver will get into the car and it is in it yourself think that from now on, it is also yourself in the world. What sees behind the windows is just a vision of a movie on windows screens, whose plot spins around the main character he is alone. (Brux)
