Polish Rock Music 1960-1970

The 60’s completely changed the musical orientation in Poland. A huge impact on the revival of Polish thorough culture of those years had a radio broadcasting emitted for young people by an independent Radio Luxembourg’s station, which on a wave of 208 meters emitted a signal with the latest buttons promoting newly released music plates. The radio signal was strong enough that he reached Poland and despite the military radio staff, during the night hours, the music was very well audible at the right receivers. A dynamic way of conducting broadcasting and musical content were completely different than the correct political broadcast on the Polish Radio.

For lovers of contemporary music, listening to Radio Luxembourg has become obligatory what soon turned into a mad fashion among Polish youth. There were no recording devices, not everyone had a suitable radio receiver, so youth was an opportunity for joint meetings, night listening to music and fun. Dreams were so born.

A huge interest in the West music and gradual democratizing culture to strengthen the weakening trust for party authorities PRL, they would be used for a moment to open the border of the country and the model of other countries start the international music festival. It was noticed demand for officials of Polish culture. This was the first Jazz Festival in Warsaw, then another in Sopot, Opole, Gdansk which was invited to popular but selected stars from the western music market. It was an impulse for Polish artists to reach for such a festival popularity with its own thoroughness.

Polish teams appeared, mainly heading for young people, by copying a music style heard from the Western Market. Concept of “Rock End Roll”(crash) it was forbidden in Poland, which is why it was called the epoch “Bigbit” criticized by musical estities as “screaming and not singing” carrying moral corruption.

This unexpected phenomenon of the emergence of Polish rock bands was pre-met with the objection of censorship. An example is the Polish team of Gdańsk Jazz-Club called Rhythm and Blues founded in 1958 by Franciszek Walicki, who under the pressure of the communist authorities of the First Secretary Edward Gierek was examplete for others solved in 1960. However, on his place, members created an independent Czerwono-Czarni (red-black) music group. This is how the history of the Polish Independent Rock begins, which was no longer able to stop. (Brux)
