The Birth of an Artificial Mountain

In the vicinity of the largest mine of central Poland located in the town of Belchatow, which is often said, that it is the largest hole in Poland, you can see several artificial hills formed after sandmark from the mine mixed with the ashes of the heat and power CHP plant.

The oldest artificial rim called Kamiensk Mountain is already completely forested and energy windmills have been installed at its top. Passing the hill by car, no one realizes that it was created from waste.

A few years ago I wrote about another dump that I call the medium maturity phase. The hill made of ash at the base was already forested but at the very top it resembled the surface of the moon. [https://brux.news.blog/2020/04/26/the-largest-coal-power-station-in-europe/]

Now I managed to look closely at the youngest dump, built mainly from the extracted sand. The outdoor looks like a green-white chessboard. This is the effect of partial planting of the slopes.

In order to protect the artificial, sand hill against hydro-erosion, the slopes are equipped with special installations (pipes) for draining water and directing it to the base of the heal. In this way, the walls of the sand healing, will not drain in the case of different rainfall or snow. Erosion will be stopped.

From the artificial hill there is a wonderful view of the surrounding area, but lovers of such landscapes are not yet invited here. There is a ban on walking on the slopes so as not to destroy reclamation, i.e. newly stunned and with the difficulty of adopting plants. But in twenty years it will be a very beautiful place. (Brux)
