I have not met a driver who praises the presence of speed cameras. I met many for this, who have to fool funny fines for riding a few kilometers faster than the current speed. In many countries, speed cameras are treated like snipers in war with drivers, they are hidden and masked, prepared to fight the disobedient society.
It’s different in Poland. Here, the speed cameras are visible, their housings have a diverse color, and each radar is preceded by about 100m with a visible sign of its presence. This tactic is about influencing a real reduction in speed and not earning on distracted drivers. This is an honest approach and very effective for safety. Drivers, knowing about the presence of the radar, take on the habit of release in a specific place. I am surprised by such a solution in Poland, where the current post-russian culture of state management is focused on a foundation with society. This is a miracle on the Vistula!
But it wasn’t that right away. When the technique of photo registration of cars exceeding the speed was introduced, Poland has adopted a model of catching drivers from the West. Speed cameras were gray and many of them were ordinary dummies. The whole process was a war with drivers. Interestingly, it did not affect safety, but profits from the presence of repression under the pretext of road safety.
The phenomenon of Poles can surprise, the protests have changed the rules, first, the dummy was removed, i.e. standing empty boxes, and later the road trick and speed cameras began to be visible. And so it should be in the world. Everyone should take an example from Poles.
However, I would not be myself if I did not find a mistake somewhere 🙂 I observed that many drivers see a speed camera and do not see the previously set sign limiting speed and releases to safely obtaining a speed of 50 km/h. Meanwhile, the current speed on the previously set sign is 70km/h. And it is done unnecessary to slow down all driving cars. And all you have to do is apply a small sign of the sign limiting speed (repetition of the sign) on the speed camera. And that would be complete information. And I even think, that officially the speed camera without marked clear information on the speed of which the control is set should not be allowed for use in public space. I would report it to the office but I know that they ignore it all and here the miracle on the Vistula ends. (Brux)
