It has 355 meters and could hold 30 wagons. The railway bunker in Jelen (Poland) is part of the fascist plan of conquering the world. It was to be a shelter for mobile command staffs that housed in trains. Its construction was secretly started six months after the attack on Poland in 1940. Almost 3000 people did the work, without the slave population. The complex consisting of an arch-shaped railway bunker and technical building was tightly surrounded by barbed wire, mines ang masking nets.
Not far away, 17 km further in Konewka, the Germans at the same time built a second shelter with a length of 380 in a straight line. It was to fulfill a similar purpose.
However, no command train ever reached the bunkers, and the shelters had to be allocated to armaments warehouses, which it was increasingly difficult to guard before the bombings. In 1944, the Germans, fleeing the Russians – a country they wanted to humiliate, took all the technical equipment of the shelters, leaving the mined.
