He Was One of The Most Interesting Person of World Hairdressing

When we look at the career of Antoni Cierplikowski, we come to the conclusion that Antoni had a hairdressing talent although he was not the only one but he was also extremely lucky and it was to the top.

Son of the shoemaker born in Polish Sieradz went to Paris at the age of 17 (1901). He found a job with the Parisian wig Mr. Decoux. As a wig’s assistant, he stayed in the basement of the plant for days. Only during the Catherine’s Christmas (November 25), when the number of clients required help, Antoni was first allowed to be clients. Then his talent in combing hairstyles was revealed. Satisfied clients recommended a young hairdresser.

Mr. Decoux completely changed his assistant attitude to such an extent that during the opening of the summer season in the resort of Trouvoille-Sur-Mer over the Atlantic, to which the Elite of the Eruropeian bourgeoisie as well as many excellent hairdressers, he entrusted the service of his regular clients in the season. Here there was another breakthrough in the career of Cierpilikowski thanks to Madam Lily de Moure (Love of Prince of Belgium) and her lost hat without which she could not visit the party. Antoni made sure that Madam did not have to be ashamed of his hair and persuaded to participate in a party without a headgear. It argued with the label, but introduced a new trend. From now on, hairstyles and not a headgear have become fashionable at parties.

And another happiness is Marie Astier who became the wife of Antoni, but also an excellent manager managing Antoni’s career. In 1905, actress Eve Lavalliere turned to Antoni about cutting her hair, which would make her a much younger teenager for the need for a film role. The art was to arrange short hair in a florous way. The movie showed not only the actress’s game but also in a wide space a new and previously unknown combination of combing, which quickly became fashionable. The media has made the publicity of the trend wizard and Cerplikowski became a hairdresser of actresses and artists of the public scene.

Cierplikowski opened his own salon for Rue Cambon 5 in Paris next to the Coco Chanel Masses boutique. The living room, however, not only served the hairstyle, the services were extended to cosmetic procedures and the possibility of buying cosmetics. It was the first place of this type in Paris where a woman could find everything she wanted in her appearance. The first electric hair dryer and the first hair washing services in Paris also appeared here, which was unlikely to be practiced in public places. Another salon was built in the USA.

Antoni Cierplikowski lived for many years as an eccentric millionaire, often seen as a degenerated madman losing his mind from excess money.

He returned to Poland in 1972 by urging his status. He was aware of the threats that await him in a communist country. He bought a modest property in the city of Sieradz where he was born. Nobody from the environment knew who he was. He died modestly at the age of 92 years after returning to the country. His all his property was abroad, he did not want to support the sick system that still exists in Poland today.

Currently in Sieradz we will find a monument to Cierplikowski and nothing more. There is no street called his name. Every year in July the Open Hair Festival takes place but it has nothing to do with the hairdresser. It is difficult to understand this attitude of Poles, whether it is a lack of marketing skills or constant proving that for good Poles (intelligent with talent) there is still no place in Poland. And if you want to be appreciated, you must live somewhere else. (Brux)
